Need Ping I3 opinions and shaft question
MCD*vis said: Looking at a set of I3 blades with ZZ65 stiff's. I shoot low 90's with no practice. Curious how forgiving these are and what they might compare to? Can anyone compare them to MX-23's or J33cb's? (not forged/cast comparisons, but playability/forgiveness). Also, what tip does the I3 take? I have a set of Nippon .370 and I wonder if they'd fit. Thanks!!
w*rbirdlover said: I don't know anything about the tip size but I hit my Ping pro's i3's when I was being fitted for my G5's and they are fantastic irons. Better then the G5. :)

d*ve. said: They have minimal offset but soem forgiveness in the cavity. The ZZ65s are relatively light and play about right to flez. Imo, they are a doddle to hit and aren't really blades
MCD*vis said: I don't really consider them true blades, either. dave, wtf does "a doddle to hit" mean in REAL english? ;)

Thanks!! Depends on how much you love 'em. Your set of Nippon shafts fixed upon...? Same question as if posed upon "can you put this engine in my..." $$$ Anything is possible. I3 blades are killer if money is no object. Check out Bogeys to Birdies next time you're in North Myrtle. Best fitting shop in Myrtle (Tony, Dustin, Tommy)...
MCD*vis said: The Nippons are currently in some old Toski heads and are a backup set at N. Myrtle. The Pings will be under $200.
MyBl*C4 said: Don't think I'm nuts, but you might want to look at a classic iron made by Ping also. The ISI irons have the look and set up of a blade, yet have a conservative cavity back. I have a set and feel I get the same kind of feel as a blade with a little more forgiveness. Excellent feedback to the hands as well.

l*mpalong said: All Ping irons are .355 taper tip. You can bore out the hosels to accept the 370's but DO NOT do it!!! You will run a perfectly good set of head by doing so! The I3 Blades are excellent clubs. A fair amount of forgiveness with playability. The little less offset than most Pings make them very attractive. I owned two sets of the I3 blades and enjoyed both immensely! The I3 Blades will not be the game improvement irons the MX23's are. They will set up a little more compact. Feel being in the hands of the player, I think you will find the feel of the I3 Blades much more solid than the cast MX series. The J33's were not an easy iron to hit. Never owned a set, but hit them at the range. Hit them well and you get a good forged feel. Hit them bad and your hands ache for a week! You will find, I believe, the I3 Blades a much more 'complimentary' iron to hit than the J33's. The ZZ65 shafts are okay. They will flex similar to the Dynamic Gold S300... just a tad lighter. The ZZ65's have a fairly high flex point and do a good job keeping the shot trajectory down. The I3 Blades with the ZZ65 shafts are a "killer" combo. How's the color code and your fit? If the lie is off for your swing... if the lies need adjustment... send them to Ping. They will do a great job, re-color the dots, and record the modifications with the serial number data. Good luck and let us know how you get along with your Pings!!!!

We're off again for another couple weeks. I, now, see how you "eskimos" in Wisconsin live. Don't see how you do it!! Have tried to "wean" myself from anything that reminds me of the game. Cabin fever... withdrawl... it's been a B***H!!!! Also, have been extremely involved in a local political issue and the national political scenes. (National scene from in front of my keyboard, typing on a couple of forums.) Over 60 years as a citizen of the United States and am seeing more history making... more 'soap operas'... more education into the ways we elect a President than ever before. Every highschooler... every citizen should have to follow what's happening during this election cycle and learn the wranglings of caucuses, primairies, delegates, super delegates, etc. Trying to get a new project off the ground. This will be an 18 month project that will require me on site for the duration. Difficult to get anything started in this weather. "Escaping" for a couple of days next weekend. Son is supposed to get back to Ft. Bragg, after 15 months in Iraq, late next week. Wife and I are flying down on Friday and back on Sunday. Will get a chance to visit and, then, he'll be home for a couple of weeks in March. Whew!!! And here I thought it had been a boring winter. Tired this old man out just talking about it. Have a month's vacation and about 3 weeks comp time built up. Still "peeking" at the Wisc ST get together thread from time to time. Will just depend on how the dates hit with work schedule, but would like to zip up there and enjoy a round or two this summer!!!!

MCD*vis said: Thanks for the input, limpalong! btw, the MX-23's are forged, but I think you meant to say that based on your statement. Also glad to hear your son is coming home. Bragg is 30 minutes from my house. If you're coming this weekend, it's going to be 66 Saturday...bring clubs for you and him and go play 18!! Next weekend (15th) it's supposed to be mid 50's and raining, and of course I have a soccer tournament. :(

Wife would go ballistic if I wanted to take the clubs along. Son will be home for a couple weeks in March. He plans to drive his car back to Bragg... and take his clubs. He wants to play some golf while stationed there. Hopefully, during his time at Bragg, we can take a drive down and stay a few days. If that happens, I'll e-mail you in advance and see if you can help an old man around a course!!!!:laugh:
MCD*vis said: There's a great course called Anderson Creek about 10-15 from base...take a look at it online. Afternoon rates aren't bad. It's a DL III course.
